Area Information
The town of Payson, situated in the heart of Arizona, offers an array of amenities for the residents of Chaparral Pines. The area's beautiful natural surroundings make it easy to see why this quaint town is renowned for its picture-perfect setting and ample recreational activities - and it's only an hour-and-a-half drive from downtown Phoenix. Whether you want to play a round of golf, or venture through the steep hills of the Mogollon Rim, opportunities abound.
Natural beauty of Payson
- Hike more than 240 miles of Forest Service trails in the Tonto National Forest. The forest hugs the side of the Mogollon Rim, which extends for 200 miles. If you'd rather drive the rim, venture out on Rim Road, which offers 42 miles of mountain-clinging terrain that climbs to more than 8,000 feet.
- Utilize the 2.9 million acres of the Tonto National Forest for picnicking, camping, boating, fishing, horseback riding and hunting.
- Visit the world's largest natural travertine (calcium carbonate), Tonto National Bridge Creek, only 10 miles north of Payson.
- Enjoy three lakes, four miles of walking paths and a children's playground at Green Valley Park.
